Fred Jacobs is currently the non-executive chairman of the South African arm of MAERSK, a multinational shipping company. He also chairs MAERSK in the Malagasy Republic. Fred serves on the boards of Cape Span an international fruit export company, the South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents [SAASOA], the South African Chamber of Chamber of Commerce & Industry [SACCI], and has held the position of President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce & Industry and served on boards in Tanzania and Kenya. He chairs Ethics and Remuneration subcommittees for various entities. He has participated in several government task teams with principal focus on BBBEE, skills development and job creation in the Maritime and allied sectors. Fred’s experience includes Human Resources, logistics, communications, government relations, and governance in Sub-Saharan Africa, Pakistan, the U.K, Far East Asia and Belgium. With some 42 years in industry during time he has played a major role in people development and leadership. He also led the rollout of the Values model in sub-Saharan Africa as Values Ambassador for MAERSK. He chairs SAMTRA [the Southern Africa Maritime Training Academy], the only training institute for training Masters, Navigators, and Officers in the Southern Hemisphere with sophisticated simulator equipment. The South African Minister of Transport to the board of the Maritime Authority has recently appointed him, where he also chairs the Maritime Industry Committee [MIC]. He has attended Cranfield University in the U.K. and the Kaizen Institute in Japan. He has co-authored "Industrial Relations and Organisational Dynamics". Fred is a UCT & MiM accredited commercial and workplace mediator. He believes mediation is an ideal platform for leadership development in the corporate world.
