Chris Mouton SC was admitted as an advocate in 1974 and after a stint as a State Advocate, commenced practice at the Eastern Cape Bar in Grahamstown. He moved to Port Elizabeth in 1984 and became a Senior Advocate in 1990. He still practises at the PE Bar. He has served on several occasions as an Acting Judge of the High Court and as Chairman of the Eastern Cape Bar Council. He is also Chairman of the PE Bar’s Pro Bono Committee. Prior to being elected onto the National Bar Examination Board, he lectured Ethics and Evidence to pupil advocates. He has a general civil practice, but with a special interest in medical negligence and social justice issues. He is a firm believer in just and fair outcomes and has often been frustrated by the inability of adversarial litigation and arbitration to achieve such outcomes. He is an accredited commercial mediator.
