Martin obtained his LLB degree in 1989 whereafter he joined the Department of Justice as a prosecutor and later as a State Advocate. He joined the Pretoria Bar in 1996 where he still practices. He has a wide commercial practice but does specialise in the Law of Insolvency, i.e. liquidations, sequestrations and business rescue. Martin also enjoys practicing Family Law and believes that more family law disputes should be mediated. He believes that litigation has for too long been the first option to resolve disputes and that mediation will more and more become an alternative where the outcome is determined by the participants. His years in practice has taught him invaluable lessons to what extent litigation can have a negative rather than a positive result for all parties. He is willing to travel to mediate.
