Karien Norval is an expert in media and communications law, and has extensive litigation experience. She has represented various publications, trade unions and high-profile individuals in precedent-setting litigation in the High Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. She also specialises in public-sector and NGO laws, constitutional and administrative law and has advised and litigated on behalf of clients in the Equality Court under the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act. Karien has worked on land reform matters as part of her involvement in the Land Rights Management Facility on behalf of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. She received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1982 and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1986, both from the University of Stellenbosch.
