André Oosthuizen S.C. has been practising as an advocate at the Cape Bar for 34 years and, before that, qualified as an attorney in 1978 and worked as a professional assistant to a firm of attorneys. He has considerable experience in general litigation, in particular in the fields of financial services and insurance, labour, pensions, company law, commercial law, sport and entertainment law, medical negligence, administrative law, franchise and licensing law, environmental law and planning and property law. André obtained his BA degree at the University of Stellenbosch, followed by an LLB at the University of South Africa, and a B.Compt (Honours) at the United of Cape Town. Silk status was conferred on him in 2000, and he has acted as a judge of the High Court on four occasions and as a judge of the Labour Court on one occasion. He is a past president of the SA Sports Lawyers Association, and is currently Chairperson of the Western Cape Sports Arbitration Forum. Over the past four years he has, to an increasing extent, been involved in mediations, particularly in the fields of commercial law, sports law, medical negligence and personal injury claims.
